Picking Raspberries

My daughter Miriam and I were at my in-laws these past few days, and
my in-laws have a beautiful lawn and garden in their backyard. Today
we all spent some time picking raspberries from their garden. Miriam
was having a blast picking them! She would pick them and eat them of
course, instead of saving them and putting them in the bowl, but
that's all right. We had a ball.

However, we kept telling Miriam to only grab the dark red ones. Those
are ripe and easy to pick. Plus, they taste really good. Miriam would
just pick any berry--green, pink, light red, dark red, purple--
indiscriminately.

Of course we laughed and shook our heads but it raises a good point:
how many times have we been impatient in our lives and wanted
something sooner than when it was ready? Maybe even in our worship
and quiet times we pull the plug early because we're busy or we don't
feel like it.

Or maybe sometimes we feel we're ready for something but God knows
that we're not "ripe" enough and He wants to give us more time to grow?

Lord, may we know when it's the right time to pick the berry off the
tree.

To Him be honor and glory forever!
